Concreting work worth Rs. 7 cr. being done

Thrissur Corporation has started the renovation of the Sakthan Thampuran bus stand, which is used by thousands of people every day.

Concreting of the floor on the north side of the bus stand was started on Monday. Buses conducting service to Kunnamkulam, Chavakkad, Guruvayur and Kozhikode used to park on the north side.

These buses have been shifted to opposite side as a temporary arrangement.

A meeting called by the Mayor decided to set up a temporary bus shed in the nearby compound owned by the Corporation.

The concreting work will be done at a cost of Rs. 7 crore. The work will be completed in three phases.

The initial phase will be completed in 40 days, according to the Corporation officials.

One of the largest bus stands in the State, more than 3,500 services are conducted form the Sakthan Thampuran bus stand every day.

Meanwhile, widening of the M.G. Road, the busiest road in the city, started on Monday. Demolishing of compound walls and buildings on both sides of the road was started in the morning by a team lead by Mayor Rajan Pallan.

The road will be widened to 22 m from Naduvilal Junction to Kottappuram bridge. The work will be completed in 20 days, according to Mayor Rajan Pallan.

Money has been allotted from the fund of Therambil Ramakrishnan, MLA, for road development and drainage canal repairing on the M.G. Road.

Thrissur Corporation will set up a fruit market in the city soon.

The discussions to identify land for establishing the market has reached final stages. The health standing committee had identified three locations for establishing it. Nayarangadi in the Jayhind market, Vacant land near the aquatic complex and the parking area in the Pattalam road are the three locations proposed. The next council meeting will finalise the location.
