Rail safety inspection of Pollachi line concludes

Commissioner of Railway Safety S.K. Mittal on Tuesday completed safety inspection of the newly laid broad gauge line between Palakkad Town and Pollachi.

The second day’s inspection went up to Pollachi Junction. He was accompanied by P.K. Mishra, Chief Administrative Officer; Prafulla Varma, Chief Engineer; and R. Ramakrishnan, Deputy Chief Engineer of the Construction wing at Chennai Egmore; along with Anand Prakash, Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad Division.

The inspection team checked the technical and safety aspects of tracks, level-crossings, bridges, stations, signals, and their operational efficiency. The Commissioner also inspected the halt station at Anamalai Road.

The speed trial run from Pollachi Junction to Palakkad Town assumed an average speed of 100 km/hr. The 55 km stretch was covered in 38 minutes. Adequate safety precautions had already been arranged at level-crossings.

The Commissioner said he had made a thorough inspection of the section and that his decision would be communicated within two weeks, after studying and evaluating the data collected on aspects of safety in the section.
