Jubilant party workers carry Oommen Chandy on their shoulders after the declaration of his election victory from the Puthuppally Assembly constituency in Kottayam on Friday.

The new Chief Minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy’s home constituency Puthuppally and his ancestral home Karot Vallakkalil Veedu wore a deserted look on Wednesday after nearly two months of hectic political activity, as Mr. Chandy and his close relatives and aids left for Thiruvananthapuram late on Tuesday night.

Only his sister-in-law and a few relatives are left at the ancestral home while the entire Congress-I unit in and around Puthuppally left for Thiruvananthapuram early Wednesday. The Congress-I enthusiasts had booked 25 tourist buses for the purpose.

The only public celebration was at Oravackal near Manarcadu where local Congress workers distributed ‘payasam’ to mark Mr. Chandy’s return to power.
