Sunil Kumar Surendran, alias Pulsar Suni, prime accused in the case of sexual assault of an actor, and co-accused Vijesh were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by the Aluva First Class Judicial Magistrate on Friday.
The court will consider the application of the Special Investigation Team for 10-day police custody of the accused on Saturday. Since the court remained close on Friday on account of a holiday, the two accused were produced before the magistrate at his residence amidst tight security at 2.40 p.m.
Lodged in district jail
Both were sent to the district jail at Kakkanad after the police reportedly requested not to send them to the Aluva sub-jail where the other three accused were lodged.
The police submitted the application for the custody of the accused for 10 days stating that it was pivotal for their interrogation to unveil the conspiracy behind the crime and also to recover the mobile phone on which the videos of the actor were taken when in captivity.
The police submitted that though they had possession of three mobile phones allegedly used by the prime accused, the key one reportedly used during the crime was yet to be recovered. Reportedly, the police delayed submitting the custody application and the medical report as result of which it was decided to consider it only on Saturday.
A large posse of police personnel was deployed in and around the magistrate’s residence in connection with the production of the accused.
