All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday visited the family of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan V.V. Vasanthakumar, who was killed in a suicide bomb attack at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir on February 14.

Accompanied by AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal and DCC president I.C. Balkrishnan, MLA, she reached the house of Vasanthakumar at Vazhakkandy Kuruma tribal hamlet at Mukkamkunnu, near Thrikkaipetta, in Wayanad around 2.50 p.m. and spent about 30 minutes there.

Ms. Gandhi also consoled Santha, mother of Vasanthakumar and wife Sheena and two children. Ms Gandhi asked the members about the details of the family with the help of Sree Dhanya Suresh, the first tribal woman from Kerala who cleared the UPSC civil services exam.

Ms. Gandhi left the hamlet after having food along with the family members. Earlier Congress president Rahul Gandhi had planned to visit the family a few weeks ago but the Special Protection Group (SPG) denied permission in the wake of Maoist presence in the area.
