Power generation at the Moolamattom power house of the Idukki hydroelectric project has been stepped up with the six generators restored to working mode.
An official told The Hindu on Wednesday that power generation was 10.31 MU and the six generators were in working condition.
Kerala State Electricity Board sources said power generation was increased to meet the additional requirement caused by the shortage in supply.
Technical glitches
Though the water level in the reservoirs was comparatively better than the previous years, some technical problems had resulted in shortfall in power generation. The priority was to meet the demand from the State hydroelectric projects and avoid purchase of costly power from outside sources.
Leakage in Penstock-II at the Sabarigiri project in Pathanamthitta on Monday and blast at the switchyard of generator three at the Moolamattom power house on April 28 had disrupted power generation.
Water level in the Idukki reservoir was satisfactory to avoid load-shedding and production at the Moolamattom power house was steadily increased to reduce dependence on other power sources.
The official said power generation at Moolamattom was 9.29 MU on Tuesday.
An official at the Dam Monitoring and Research Station, Vazhathoppe, said water level on Wednesday was 2,347.3 ft compared to 2,331.56 ft the same day last year.
For the past three days, there was a slight decrease in water level, though the inflow from the Periyar and other tributaries were at a sustained level, the official said.
The rainfall recorded in the catchment area on Wednesday was one mm.
