The Union Sports Ministry will soon launch a talent search portal to nurture budding sportspersons, Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Vijay Goel has said.

Inaugurating an event organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra here on Thursday, he said those above eight years could upload their biodata and a video showing their sports talent on the portal. The Sports Authority of India would select the best and train them.

“These steps are aimed at nurturing talent for the Olympics scheduled for 2020, 2024, and 2028. We are promoting talent in hockey, kabaddi, football, and wrestling too,” Mr. Goel said.

Asked about the preparations for the upcoming FIFA under-17 World Cup in Kochi, he said the government had promised to cooperate with the Centre in ensuring proper infrastructure.
