Says the movement lifted Keralites from servility

Historian M.R. Raghava Warrier on Sunday called for strengthening the campaign to popularise the messages of the Kerala renaissance movement.

Delivering a lecture on the ‘Course of Renaissance’ as part of the 82nd anniversary of the Temple Entry Proclamation here on Sunday, Mr. Warrier said colonialism had resulted in servility of many forms among Keralites, while the reformation movement attempted to lift people from it. This, however, did not happen to the full extent, as is evident from the deviation of Keralites from their indigenous practices.

Hence, there is an urgent need to strengthen the campaign to popularise the messages upheld by the Renaissance movement. Aju K. Narayanan, a faculty member with the School of Letters, MGU, who delivered a lecture on ‘Rethinking Kerala Renaissance,’ urged youngsters to tread the path set by the movement.

V. Radhika, head of the History Department, CMS College, Kottayam, moderated the event. Babu Cheriyan, James Manimala and Rajeev Pallikonam spoke.
