: The ‘vottu vandi’ (election awareness vehicle) meant for creating awareness of the functioning of multi-post Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) concluded its tour in the district on Saturday.

People crowded around the campaign vehicle, arranged by Public Relations Department with the help of Election Commission. Each voting unit has a control unit and three ballot units.

The tour started from tribal area of Vazhachal. This is the first time that EVMs are being used in the local body elections. After completing the tour at Chelakkara and Pazhyannur, the vehicle visited Palakkad district.

Training for the polling officials will be held at various centres on October 26 and 27. The training of the master trainers was already finished at the Collectorate.

The police have removed boards and banners from public places and from electric posts. Kunnamkulam Circle Inspector T.P. Farshad asked the political parties to remove flex boards set up at Kunnamkulam and nearby places.

“The flex boards have been banned in public places on the basis of a decision taken at the all-party meeting. The parties should co-operate with the police,” he said.

District Collector A. Kousikan asked the parties to remove campaign materials from electric posts. Electric posts should not be used for election campaign. The expenses for removing such campaign materials from the posts would be added to the poll expenses of the candidate, District Collector A. Kousikan said.

Meanwhile, security arrangements for the coming elections were discussed at a meeting convened by the District Collector. There will special focus on sensitive booths. Web cameras and video recording will be arranged in sensitive booths. There are 44 sensitive booths (18 in rural area and 26 in the city) in the district.

A joined combing operation will be held by the Police, Excise and Forest departments to prevent distribution of hooch and liquor smuggling in connection with election.
