Policeman killed in road accident

A senior civil police officer was killed when the motorbike he was riding was hit by a police jeep at Arthipallam near Badiadukka.

B. Janardhana Naik, 42, who was with the Badiadukka police station, had taken the two-wheeler into custody from a boy who was riding it without licence on Monday evening. While Mr. Naik was riding to the police station, the vehicle skidded and he fell off it. Shortly, an accompanying police jeep rammed the two-wheeler from behind, seriously injuring Mr. Naik.

Mr. Naik, who was first rushed to a private hospital here, was shifted to a Mangaluru hospital, where he underwent a major surgery. He died around 10.30 p.m., police sources said.
