The two-day delegates’ session held as part of the district meet of the Communist Party of India (CPI) came to a close at the Comrade M. Sukumara Pillai Nagar (Paliyekkara Church auditorium) on Sunday.
A total of 158 delegates attended the session and they elected 40 members to the party district council. The 40-member district council had unanimously elected former assistant district secretary A.P. Jayan as the new district secretary of the party.
There were reports that the CPI State committee had decided that the outgoing district secretary, P. Prasad, should be given one more term. Mr. Prasad preferred to stay out of the race following the announcement made by Mr. Jayan, disregarding the State committee decision, that he would contest for the post.
CPI leaders Kanam Rajendran, K. Prakashbabu, K.R. Chandramohanan, and Binoy Viswam were deputed by the party State committee for the smooth conduct of the district meet.
The district meet will come to a close with a public meeting on Monday.
Pannian Ravindran, party State secretary, will inaugurate the public meeting.
