Additional Director General of Police K. Padmakumar on Wednesday told the government that some quarters were attempting to sully his name for successfully prosecuting the accused in the solar investment fraud case.

The government on October 10 removed Mr. Padmakumar from his post as Principal, Kerala Police Training College, and appointed him as chairman and managing director of Marketfed. It had also ordered that a special team criminally investigate Mr. Padmakumar on suspicion of destroying evidence in the solar case.

Mr. Padmakumar told Home Secretary Subrata Biswas that his prompt action as IG, Kochi Range, during the 2012-14 period had brought the solar racket to the fore. He constituted a team to probe two cold cases in which Saritha and Biju Radhakrishna were suspects. The court in 2016 convicted the accused for cheating in both the cases.

Mr. Padmakumar said he was not privy to the findings of the G. Sivarajan Commission. However, he felt that certain quarters had engaged in character assassination to mar him.
