Orthodox Church members continue protest

Members of the Malankara Orthodox Church have staged marches in different parts of the district on Sunday, demanding implementation of the Court order in the ownership issue of the St Paul’s and St Peter’s Church at Kolencherry.

The agitated protesters have staged road blockade in many places.

The protest march held in Kozhencherry town in the forenoon was led by Metropolitan of the Sultan Battery diocese, Abraham Mar Epiphaneus.

The protesters burnt Chief Minister, Oommen chandy in effigy, later.

In Pandalam, the protesters made a futile attempt to detain the car of Revenue Minister, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, in the forenoon.

The Church members have also staged marches in Adoor, Pathanamthitta town, Konni, Mallappally, Thumpamon, Kulanada, Ranni and Thiruvalla on Sunday.

Minor clash

There were also reports of a minor clash between the protesters and a group of snakeboat crew heading towards Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple to participate in the Vallasadya in the forenoon. The incident occurred at Arattupuzha near Aranmula when the vehicle carrying the boat crew too was trapped in the road block in the forenoon. The altercation between the two groups resulted in a minor clash and seven persons injured in the incident have been admitted to two nearby hospitals, later.

Various Hindu organisations, under the banner of Hindu Aikyavedi, organised a protest meeting at Arattupuzha and condemned the alleged attack on the snakeboat crew, later, in the afternoon.
