Dialogue between the Oriental Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church will get under way at the Samavaya Ecumenical Study Centre, Pambakkuda, near here, on Tuesday.

Delegates from the Oriental Orthodox Churches of Egypt, Armenia, India, Syria, Ethiopia, and Eritrea, and the Catholic Church arrived here on Monday.

They will engage in dialogue on ecclesiology, episcopacy, apostolic succession, the relevance and importance of ecumenical councils, and the Church and its mission.

Till February 2

Gabriel Mar Gregorios, Metropolitan of the Diocese of Thiruvananthapuram, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, who announced the event here on Monday, said delegates from Egypt, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Italy, the U.S., Armenia, Germany, and Italy would attend the dialogue. The discussions would conclude on February 2.

Undivided Church

The Metropolitan said this year’s endeavour was to discuss the relevance of the nature and communion of the united and undivided Apostolic Church that existed till the fifth century C.E., in the present day Churches.

“The dialogue also seeks to emphasise that communion in worship and sacraments is multi-faceted and multi-layered, hence putting the onus on the Churches to realise this aim.”
