Operation Valsalya to find missing children

The month-long Operation Valsalya, a drive to find out missing children, will be under way in the district under the aegis of the district administration in collaboration with various government departments.

The month-long operation being held as part of the State-wide initiative to find out missing children in cases reported from different parts of the country involves searches and inspections in public places such as railway stations and bus stands as also orphanages and places of worship. The operation envisages searches in the public places on every Monday during the month-long drive period. The campaign will start on October 2. The operation aims to collect information from children found in such places.

When contacted, District Child Protection Unit officer Anju Mohan said that the operation was meant to find if children staying in places such as orphanages and or those found with migrants were children reported missing from different parts of country. The photos of children found to be those reported missing would be uploaded to the website of the Missing Child Bureau, she said. Steps would also be taken to find out parents of such children identified during the operation, she added. She also informed that the district had three cases of missing children.

The operation is being launched in collaboration with the Legal Services Authority, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, the Railways, the police and the Regional Transport Office, among others.
