One person was arrested in connection with circulation of seven fake currencies with face value of Rs. 500 denomination at Kumbla, police said.

M. Abubacker (43) was arrested after he went to Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB)’s Kumbla section office to clear three household bills worth Rs. 5,682 as the official identified the fake notes while counting them on Tuesday.

The fake currencies with the face value of Rs. 500 were found to have extra thickness and the matter was informed to the police which later arrested the man under the provision of IPC 489 (possessing fake currencies).

The man was produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court here on Wednesday as the court released him on bail.

The car, in which he had travelled to the KSEB office, was taken custody by the police, they said.

The senior police officials are chalking out on the investigation procedures in connection with the circulation of the counterfeit currencies, they said.
