Songs are flowing to Kerala Sahitya Akademi as part of preparing an official song for the State.

Suggestions were invited from the public. Though entries can be sent till June 30, the Kerala Sahitya Akademi has already received around 200 songs.

The government has recently decided to prepare an official song, Vandana ganam, secular in nature and which could be used for government and other public functions. The akademi was entrusted with the responsibility of inviting songs from the public.

The idea of ‘official song for the State’ was raised at an interactive session held by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Minister for Culture A.K. Balan with cultural leaders here recently.

Lyrics were invited from writers, poets, lyricists, cultural leaders and general public. A high-level committee will review the entries and short list them after June 30 and submit the shortlisted entries to the Cultural Department.

There are suggestions to choose the official song from the old poems in Malayalam. The government has noted that existing songs and poems also can be considered for the official song.
