NH widening: Land survey may miss deadline

Land acquisition has to be completed before Feb. 15

A special unit under the Revenue Department entrusted with the task of acquiring land for widening the Thuravoor-Oachira stretch of National Highway (NH) 66 remains doubtful about completing the land survey on time.

All procedures related to acquisition of land should be completed before February 15, 2019 for issuing 3D notification (declaration of acquisition). Otherwise, the 3A notification would become invalid.

Three zones

Officials said of the total 81.6-km stretch, the survey had been completed in around 40 km so far. “We are conducting the survey after dividing the stretch into three different zones — Cherthala, Alappuzha and Haripad. Of the total 19.8-km Cherthala stretch, the survey has been completed except in 1 km. In Alappuzha and Haripad, the survey has been completed only in 15 km and 5 km respectively.

Surveyors

We have roped in surveyors from other districts and appointed additional staff to expedite the process. We need to complete the process before the end of this month for the government to issue 3D notification on time,” an official with the Revenue Department told The Hindu .

The official said the survey details of Cherthala section would be submitted to the Centre in the coming days for issuing the 3D notification.

“We are also doing works related to issuing 3D notification. Even if the land survey cannot be completed in entirety, we can still upload the report based on the survey done.

3D notification

“The government can issue 3D notification for survey numbers where the process is completed. The only problem is 3A notification will have to be issued again for the rest of the survey numbers, which will result in further delay in acquisition of land,” the official added.
