Minister launches construction works too

Health Minister K.K. Shylaja on Thursday inaugurated 13 projects at the Government Medical College Hospital here on Thursday.

On the occasion, the Minister said the State government was committed to ensure quality medical service to the public. A slew of projects had been implemented under the Ardram project. “A total of 170 Primary Health Centres (PHC) have been upgraded to Family Health Centres (FHC) while another 504 PHCs are on course to become FHCs soon. Efforts are also on to upgrade the government medical colleges into centres of excellence,” she said.

Facilities

The projects inaugurated include the second cath lab in the Cardiology department, 128-slice CT scan machine, Early Intervention and Autism centre, retina unit, cancer surgery department, renovated paediatric heart surgery department, renovated wards, laparoscopic machine for keyhole surgery at the casualty department, new ICU unit at nephrology, single-balloon enteroscope at gastroenterology, in-service nursing education unit, and renovated interiors roads.

She also launched the construction works of second phase of the casualty department, medical ward for women, and a new toilet complex.

K. Suresh Kurup, MLA, presided. District Collector P.K. Sudheer Babu delivered the keynote address. Director of Medical Education Remla Beevi, medical college Principal George Joseph, vice principal K.P. Jayakumar, and ex-MLA V.N. Vasavan were present.

The Minister also inaugurated the new homoeo and Ayurveda hospital complex at Kumarakom, besides a breast-feeding centre at the District Collectorate in separate functions.
