The Union Ministry for Rural Development has developed a new citizen-centric mobile application, Janmanrega , which will help locate assets that have been geo-tagged under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Janmanrega was officially released in June, but now the Beta-version of the Andriod app has been developed. This will allow locating over 1.8 crore assets already geo-tagged under the MGNREGS within the Indian Space Research Organisation’s Bhuvan Map Interface along with their attributes and two photographs using an Andriod mobile phone. Citizens will be able to provide feedback on the assets created.

The mission hopes to ensure greater public engagement through this. According to the Union Ministry, Janmanrega is an instrument for information flow to and from the ground level which will connect citizens to the system. It is an initiative towards good governance and interface to improve quality of public services. The State mission has issued directions for using the app as per the guidelines of the Union Rural Development Ministry.
