The Madin Academy here will organise a conference at Swalat Nagar on October 23 to commemorate the historic events that took place in the Islamic month of Muharram. The conference on the tenth day of Muharram will mark the conclusion of a series of programmes being held on Madin campus.
The first month of the Islamic calendar, Muharram is considered the second holiest month for Muslims after Ramzan.
Sunni Muslims celebrate the month by fasting during the day of Ashura (tenth) in commemoration of the freedom won by Moses for his people from the tyranny of Egyptian Pharaoh. But Shiites mourn in the month for Prophet Mohammed’s grandson Hussein, who was killed in the Battle of Karbala on the tenth of Muharram.
“It is unfair to focus on the black mark of Karbala by overlooking the blessings showered by Allah in the month of Muharram. We will be doing a great injustice to history if we present Muharram as a month of grief and mourning,” said Madin Chairman Sayed Ibrahim Khaleel Bukhari.
Young scholar Abdul Jaleel Saqafi spoke on the message of Hijra. Samastha Mushawara member P. Ibrahim Baqavi inaugurated a Muharram seminar. Quran scholar Aboobacker Saqafi spoke about the historical significance of Muharram at a function held at Madin Grand Mosque on Sunday.
An exhibition, a quiz competition and an essay competition will be held for Madin students on Monday. A class will be held for women on Thursday morning.
The Muharram Ashura conference will begin with a Hadith session at the dawn of October 23. A series of prayers and a mass Iftar will be held on the occasion.
