More mangroves for the Pallikkal river

A group of youngsters based at Karunagapally, under the banner of the Kerala Youth Promotion Council (KYPC), launched the second phase of the mangrove afforestation programme along the banks of the Pallikkal river near on Monday.

The second phase will have 1,000 mangrove saplings being planted along the Chambakadavu to Kannetti course of the river.

Inaugurating the programme, former Minister and Karunagapally MLA C. Divakaran said that mangrove forests played a very important role in environment protection and biodiversity maintenance. He said while people had started understanding the seriousness of environment protection, there had to be a sustained awareness campaign too for it.

He was all praise for the members of the KYPC who launched the mangrove afforestation programme.
