New chapter in Malappuram’s history of communal harmony

Touched by the altruistic love and kindness displayed by the people of Malappuram during the floods that the State witnessed in August, the Ahmedabad diocesan Metropolitan of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Metropolitan visited the district on Friday.

Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Yulios said he tasted the sweetness of love and camaraderie of the people of Malappuram during his historic personal visit.

Opening a new chapter in the history of Malappuram’s communal harmony and brotherhood, the Metropolitan attended a Juma prayer congregation at Mujahid Juma Masjid, Pulikkal. The entire Friday gathering at the mosque was ecstatic at the unexpected guest during the mass prayers.

After carefully listening to Qateeb Moideenkoya Madeeni’s sermon, Dr. Geevarghese addressed the gathering for 10 minutes.

Sharing his experience, the Metropolitan said there was none to outshine the people of Malappuram in patriotism, love, kindness and compassion.

He called upon the people to never lose the light of camaraderie and the lessons of brotherhood taught by the floods.

He saluted the youngsters of the Mission Flood Youth Alive for the selfless work of charity they offered in places like Chengannur and Paravur during the floods.

Visits Thangal

Dr. Geevarghese visited Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State president Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal at Panakkad and expressed his happiness on visiting Malappuram. Muslim League leaders Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal, P.K. Kunhalikutty, MP, P.V. Abdul Wahab, MP, Abdussamad Samadani and U.A. Latheef were also present.

The Metropolitan also visited C.H. Centre at Manjeri and Shihab Thangal Dialysis Centre at Kondotty.

He expressed his happiness on examining the charity work of those centres.

He spoke to the kidney patients at the dialysis centre and offered them his prayers and help.

A connoisseur of Malabar’s rice pathiri, the Metropolitan enjoyed his lunch with Faizal Kolloli, tasting fish biriyani and fried mussels.

He said the visit would leave an indelible memory in him.
