Make treasury services hassle-free

October 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST

Treasuries in the State offer banking services, mainly savings and fixed deposits. State employees and retired personnel are account holders in treasury savings bank. That the interest offered by the treasury is higher than that offered by scheduled banks makes it an attractive option. Though all treasuries are computerised, the software is not updated. Services like ATM and net banking have not been added. This results in inordinate delays in treasury transactions. While an FD account can be opened in a bank in a few minutes, the process takes hours in a treasury. While an FD is renewed in a bank automatically, the person has to be present in the treasury for the same. The government has to upgrade the software so that customers get the same prompt service as from banks. This will indirectly help the government attract more money into the treasury, which will be a boon when it becomes cash starved.

Trees pose danger

Two big rain trees stand on the right side of the approach road of Pettah railway bridge, precariously leaning to the busy road. The trees are very old and their roots are exposed. Electric sparks are common whenever the branches come into contact with the overhead electric wires. The families that reside on the other side of the road live in constant fear. Though the authorities concerned were informed of the situation many times, no steps had been taken so far to avert the danger posed.

'Steps should be taken without delay to cut down the trees.

Seats for senior citizens

Though one or two seats are earmarked for senior citizens on KSRTC buses, these seats are often occupied by other passengers. Conductors also do not ask the passengers to vacate the reserved seats to accommodate the elders.

The transport authorities may give specific instruction to the bus crew to see that the seats meant for the elders are ensured to them and others are allowed to take the seats only in the absence of senior citizens.
