The scheme under which discounts are offered on airfares to non-resident Keralites (NoRKs) will be extended to more airlines, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

Addressing the Middle East regional meet of the Loka Kerala Sabha (LKS) in Dubai on Friday, he said the government would ink a pact in this regard with Qatar Airways this month. In 2018, a similar agreement had been signed with with Oman Air for providing 7% cut on fares. The scheme is open to NoRKs holding NoRKA identity card and their families.

The government had plans to open a women’s cell at NoRKA-Roots and district-level grievance redressal committees for NoRKs, he said. There were also moves to introduce a Pravasi divident scheme.

The LKS was a new chapter in the democratic process of Kerala, and it brought together Malayalees from across the world, he said.
