Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State general secretary K.P.A. Majeed has said that the dispute between the IUML and the Congress in some panchayats in the district cannot be resolved easily.
Addressing a meet-the-press here on Thursday, Mr. Majeed said the party was facing issues locally at a dozen-odd panchayats. The party, he said, had appointed a three-member committee to address the issue.
Committee report
Mr. Majeed said the IUML State leadership would intervene on the basis of the committee’s report. He said issues at Porur, the panchayat of District Congress Committee president E. Mohammed Kunhi, would be resolved through talks.
The IUML, he said, would not settle for any adjustments outside the United Democratic Front (UDF). However, Mr. Majeed said that political equations would not be the same everywhere in a panchayat election.
He said that rebels contesting against the party’s official candidates would be expelled from the party. He said the IUML had no agenda to bifurcate the Malappuram district.
