The biggest recruitment examination in the history of the Kerala State Public Service Commission (PSC), for which some 15 lakh government job seekers have applied, will begin on Wednesday.
The staggered written test for recruitment of Lower Division Clerks (LDCs) will run until end-September on different dates for different districts.
To start with, the test for Thrissur and Pathanamthitta districts will be held on Wednesday. The test for Thrissur district residents will be held at 443 centres spread across Thrissur, Malappuram, Palakkad and Ernakulam districts. PSC sources said 1,13,715 candidates were expected to show up for the Thrissur district test. For Pathanamthitta district, 45,659 candidates were expected to take the test at 291 centres in Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Kottayam and Alappuzha districts.
The next batch of test will be held on May 28 for Ernakulam and Wayanad residents. For Ernakulam district, 1,40,436 applicants will take the test at nearly 500 centres. For Wayanad district, 36,274 candidates will appear for the test.
Identity proof
The PSC has made elaborate arrangements for these massive tests. Against the backdrop of last year's allegations of identity fraud in the posting of LDCs in Wayand district, the commission has revamped its personal identification verification. In order to be admitted to the test centres, the candidates have to show the admit cards with photos, which could be downloaded from the PSC website with the barcodes provided to each candidate, as well as another personal ID card. The barcodes have been sms-ed to all applicants who have mentioned their mobile phone numbers in their applications.
The second identification proof could be: passport, driver's licence, electoral ID, PAN card or the bank passbook with photo issued by a nationalised bank to its customers. A photocopy of the ID is also necessary.
The written test, to be followed by a personal interview early next year, is for the recruitment of between 12,000 to 15,000 clerical staff in various State government departments.
