Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI –M] State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has justified the reported statement of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that there was no conspiracy behind the abduction and assault of a female actor in Kochi in February.

Mr. Balakrishnan told the media here on Thursday said the Chief Minister had made the statement based on the information he had received at that point of time from the Police Department. However, in the light of new evidence the police began to investigate the case further, he added.

(The statement of the Chief Minister had created a controversy after the arrest of the main accused ‘Pulsar’ Suni in February. However, he retracted his statement saying that he had asked the media not to probe the conspiracy angle and that his remarks were based on a newspaper report.)

Replying to a question on the marathon interrogation of actor Dileep for more than 12 hours in connection with the case, Mr. Balakrishnan said it was up to the police to decide on the questioning for their investigations.

"I do not want to comment on the ongoing probe. This government does not indulge in cell rule by framing questions from party office. This may happen in some BJP- ruled States. Let the police officers do their job," he said.
