Three more persons arraigned as witnesses in the Kevin murder case were examined as part of the final hearing on the case at the Principal sessions Court here on Tuesday.

During his examination, Santosh, a relative of Kevin and the third witness in the case, testified that Shyanu Chacko, the prime accused, had called him up and tried negotiating a deal by threatening to kill the youth and his cousin Aneesh Sebastian. The call was received around 5.30 a.m. on May 27, a few hours after Kevin’s kidnap.

Sibi, the second witness and brother of Santosh, had overheard the conversation between Santosh and Shyanu and then contacted assistant sub-inspector T.M. Biju of the Gandhi Nagar police station.

Following this, they also approached the authorities of the hostel where Neenu had been staying, though to no avail. Despite approaching the police, they were made to wait at the police station for several hours and no action was initiated.

Sibi also recognised the audio recording of a telephonic conversation between assistant sub-inspector T.M. Biju and himself.

Room rental

Meanwhile, Roy Janardhanan, the ninth witness in the case and general the manager of a hotel in Kottayam Town, identified Shyanu and the eighth accused in the case, who had come to the hotel around 12.30 a.m. on May 27.

The gang, who had introduced themselves as tourists, sought to rent a couple of rooms for just two hours. They, however, were sent back as the hotel staff grew suspicious about their behaviour.
