Hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists walked along with their party State president Kummanam Rajasekharan for about 13 km on Monday evening before according him and the Janaraksha Yatra led by him a rousing reception on the premises of the Palakkad Fort.
Though it began as a ‘padayatra’ in Kannur, the Janaraksha Yatra continued its journey through Kozhikode and Malappuram as a vehicle rally till reaching Mundur on the outskirts of the Palakkad town. A large number of party workers from western Tamil Nadu too reached Mundur to join the yatra and they inspired the yatra team by shouting slogans in Tamil.
Before reaching Mundur, the rally was accorded receptions at Thrithala, Pattambi, Shoranur, Ottappalam, Pathiripala, Keralassery, and Kongad.
Mr. Rajasekharan and BJP national spokesperson Shanavaz Hussain were the key speakers at a public meeting held at Pattambi.
The padayatra turned into a show of strength by workers from the Palakkad, Malampuzha, Mannarkkad, and Kongad Assembly constituencies, reached the Palakkad Fort premises via Puthupariyaram, Olavakode, Puthiyapalam, Victoria College, and Court Road.

As Union Ministers Ananth Kumar and V.K. Singh failed to turn up, the public meeting was addressed by party’s national general secretary Muraleedhar Rao and Delhi BJP unit president Manoj Tiwari, MP.
Party district president E. Krishnadas and State secretary C. Krishnakumar also addressed the gathering.
Mr. Rajasekharan said the yatra had helped channelise national attention to the political terror unleashed by the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front government in the State.
Traffic was severely disrupted in the town when the workers occupied the streets.
To Thrissur
The yatra will continue its journey to Thrissur on Tuesday after a public meeting at Vadakanchery.
