Students of Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) have come out meritorious by winning many international scholarships and recognitions.
While Aleena Joy, Archana P.R. and Pragna Pratap won the prestigious Melbourne Research Scholarship worth AUD30,000 a year to pursue PhD programme at the University of Melbourne, Australia; Athira Prasad got fellowship from Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, University of Miami.
Rashamol V.P., and Afsal A. have been invited to present papers in international conferences in the US. Aleena Joy also secured Rowden White Scholarship as one-time establishment grant worth AUD6,500.
Congratulating the winners, KAU Vice Chancellor R. Chandrababu called upon students to explore oversees research opportunities to upgrade skills and excel in professional life.
He said this while felicitating students of the Academy for Climate Change Education and Research (ACCER) who won international scholarships and recognitions.
Opportunity to better oneself
“Overseas opportunities change your perception for the good and develop your self-confidence. I know that you have achieved this distinction with self-motivation and hard work. I also look forward to see more KAU students exploring new frontiers and achieving similar things,” he said.
Veeraswamy Sejian, scientist, NIANP, Bengaluru, who guided the students in research, said that exceptional attitude and persistent hard work combined with proper facilities helped the students achieve prestigious scholarships from Australia.
Paper presentation
Rashamol has been selected to make a paper presentation with full travel grant in the 9th International Congress on Environmental Modelling and Software at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado, USA.
Afsal has secured international travel fellowship to attend and present a paper at the International Conference on Urban Climate organised by the American Meteorological Society, National Science Foundation and World Meteorological Organisation from August 6 to 10 at the City College of New York, US.
Earlier in the day, the Vice Chancellor inaugurated a training-cum-workshop on implementing green protocol in all the constituent stations of KAU.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Chandrababu called for conscious efforts to enhance greenery and cleanliness and directed KAU units across the State to draw up concrete plants to help this cause.
Suchithwa Mission Director L.P. Chithar, in his key note address, said that Haritha Keralam mission coordinates effective implementation of programmes carried out by different agencies. Green protocol was an important element of waste management and these guidelines should become a personal habit of every one, he said.
