Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured a team from Kerala who visited him on Friday that his government would not raise any objection against the proposed Nilambur-Nanjangud railway line.
While discussing the issue with Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala , who led the team, in Bengaluru, Mr. Siddaramaiah said his government would not raise any objection against the proposed project; instead it would take initiative to materialise it. I.C. Balakrishnan, who was also in the team, told The Hindu that Mr. Siddaramaiah had promised to hold discussion with his Kerala counterpart Pinarayi Vijayan and E. Sreedharan, Principal Adviser of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), after discussing the issue with senior officials in Karnataka.
KPCC president M.M. Hassan, Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal and M.I. Shanavas, MP, were the other members of the team. Meanwhile, the Nilgiris-Wayanad National Highway and Railway Action Committee urged the State government to hand over the amount earmarked for preparing a detailed project report and conduct a final survey of the Nilambur-Sulthan Bathery-Nanjangud rail line.
