Judicial custody extended to April 11

Ambalappuzha Judicial First Class Magistrate, V. Udayakumar on Thursday extended to April 11 the judicial custody of the three accused in the case of collision of the Singapore-flagged ship, m.v.Prabhu Daya with a fishing boat off Cherthala coast killing five fishermen on March 1.

The Ambalappuzha police produced the three accused before the Magistrate on Thursday as their judicial custody expired the same day. The Magistrate will decide on Saturday on a petition of owners of the ship, m.v.Prabhu Daya, Tolani Shipping (Singapore) Pte Ltd through their counsel, filed last week, seeking the release of the ship.

The first accused, Prasobh Sugathan through his counsel, Priyadarshan Thampy , will file a bail application before the Court of Principal Sessions Judge, Alappuzha, K.P. Somarajan on Friday. The third accused and captain of the ship, Gordon Charles Pereira through his counsel Sunil Maheswaran had filed a bail application for the captain before the same court. Another bail application for second accused and seaman, Mayur Virendra Kumar, through his counsel, Sunil Maheswaran, will be filed shortly. All the three accused were denied bail by the Ambalappuzha Judicial First Class Magistrate, V. Udayakumar on Wednesday.
