Despite its slide in the National Institutional Ranking Framework by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, (NIT-C), has secured excellent placement record for 2017-18.
Over 75% of students have been hired by 134 companies and the average compensation has gone up to ₹8.5 lakh from ₹7.5 lakh from the recruitment last year.
All the 108 students of the B.Tech. Computer Science course have been enlisted and the average annual salary offered is ₹12.5 lakh. Three students have been offered the highest salary of ₹40 lakh each by Adobe Systems Incorporated and three others offered ₹33 lakh each by Goldman Sachs Group, T.K. Suresh Babu, head of the NIT-C Training and Placement Cell for 2017-18, told The Hindu on Wednesday.
The achievement has come when the NIT-C has drawn flak for sliding to 50th from the previous year’s 44th rank in the engineering colleges category at the national level. “The NIT-C is still one of the best engineering colleges in the State, apart from the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology and the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, which have been placed 23rd and 75th respectively in the rankings,” Dr. Suresh Babu said.
455 placement offers
As many as 455 placement offers were made to the B.Tech. students. All the students of the MCA have got placement, apart from a significant percentage of M.Tech. and MBA students. Five students were offered annual packages above 30 lakh, six students over ₹25 lakh, 21 students above ₹20 lakh, 55 students above ₹15 lakh, and 140 students above ₹10 lakh.
The season also saw recruiters scouting for more B.Tech. students from the core engineering subjects such as Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical and Civil. There were takers for Chemical and Production engineering disciplines as well.
Dr. Babu said the number of companies that visited the campus had increased from 54 to 134 in the last 12 years. Likewise, the salary offered grew from ₹3.5 lakh during 2006-07 to ₹8.5 lakh in 2017-18.
