I spoke only against corruption: Satheeshan

May 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated April 02, 2016 10:30 pm IST - Kozhikode:

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) vice president V.D. Satheeshan has hit back at his detractors in the Congress saying that those who are criticising him had earlier tried to oust two Congress Chief Ministers K. Karunakaran and A.K. Antony.

“They had overtly and covertly led this attempt. Now this guilt is reflected in their statements,” said Mr. Satheeshan, reacting to the statements made by Minister for Cultural Affairs K.C. Joseph and Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, against him here on Saturday.

Issues raised by Antony

He said that those who had no guts to reply to the corruption charges levelled by Mr. Antony had now turned against him. By criticising him, they were replying to Mr. Antony.

“I have said the remaining part of what Mr. Antony and KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran meant. They should introspect why Mr. Antony made such a statement. I have never sought for a change in the leadership nor a Cabinet reshuffle. If someone criticises the leadership, they fear that he is pulling the strings for a change in leadership. The reason for this is the act they had done previously,’’ Mr. Satheeshan said.

‘‘I have desire for power. I am not a sanyasi. For that, I have not forged any documents. I have not requested any help from community and political leaders. I have spoken only against corruption. I stick to what I have said. I have become KPCC vice president without anybody's recommendation,” he said.

Regarding Mr. Joseph's declaration on the government’s good performance, Mr. Satheeshan quipped, ‘‘I don’t know in which planet he is living. He is not on earth. The UDF government is in utter disarray,” he said.
