State Women’s Commission chairperson M.C. Josephine said here on Monday that the Grievance Redressal committees that deal with violence against women should be more vigilant in ensuring justice to women.

Talking to media persons here after attending a mega adalat organised by the the panel, she said the committees constituted for women justice were not active in the State.

Vested interests

Such committees functioning in some private institutions, especially in educational institutions, were constituted as per the vested interests of managements, Ms. Josephine added.

Many a time such committees try to dismiss the complaints of the victim by saying that the issue was under consideration of the police, Ms. Josephine said.

The victims do not get justice in time owing to the apathy of such committees, she said.

“The panel found that such committees were not functioning in three cases that came before the panel during the sitting,” Ms. Josephine said adding that the commission had directed the managements concerned to submit reports in this regard.

18 cases settled

As many as 47 cases came before the sitting, of which 18 cases were settled.
