Kerala government’s achievements in the field of infrastructure development over the past three-and-a-half years are notable and historic, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said.

Mr. Balakrishnan was addressing various election conventions of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate K.U. Janeeshkumar in Konni on Sunday.

The State government had sanctioned ₹10,000 crore, through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), for the hill highway development project.

sThe government had also set apart ₹10,000 crore for the proposed coastal highway project, he said.

Mr. Balakrishnan said the work on the Kovalam-Kasaragod national waterway project that had been remaining disrupted for years together was restarted by the government with a mission to complete in the next one year.

GAIL project

He said the previous United Democratic Front (UDF) government had failed to acquire the land required for laying the pipeline for the GAIL project to Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram from Kochi.

The LDF government had completed the land acquisition and the project implementation was progressing fast, he said.

Mr. Balakrishnan said the government could commission the much sought-after Kochi-Edamon power highway, facilitating 210 mw power transmission from the Koodamkulam power plant.

The government could develop various Information Technology Parks to provide jobs to as many as one lakh degree holders in the State over the past three-and-a-half years and 60 companies had started their operations in Kerala, he said.

PSC jobs

As many as 1,10,000 persons had got employment through the Public Service Commission and 60% of them were women, he said.

Mr. Balakrishnan said appointment of priests hailing from the backward communities at various Hindu temples attached to the Travancore Devaswom Board was another landmark achievement of the LDF government.
