The State government is surging forward by successfully fighting challenges, Minister for Water Resources Mathew T. Thomas has said.

He was addressing the function to inaugurate the Ollur-Edakkunny water project and drinking water distribution network, implemented jointly by the Thrissur Corporation in association with the Kerala Water Authority, on Thursday.

Resource mobilisation

All government departments had been working united during the post-floods reconstruction drive in the State, he said. The government wanted to build a better Kerala.

“Though the government is facing many challenges in resource mobilisation, we will survive all hurdles,” he added.

“The Water Resources Department is also facing many challenges. Though the Centre has cut the dividend from ₹200 crore to ₹47 crore, it has not affected the functioning of the department. Projects worth ₹2,627 crore have been implemented through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). After the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government came into power, the Water Resources Department had implemented projects worth ₹90,000 crore. An amount of ₹618.77 crore has been earmarked for Thrissur district,” he said.

Meanwhile, District Collector T.V. Anupama has said that permission for construction of houses in landslip-prone areas will be given only after ensuring safety.

People will be provided awareness on safety issues.
