The State government is committed to implementing the Supreme Court verdict lifting the restrictions on entry of women to Sabarimala and would not allow anyone to take the law into their own hands, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

Briefing reporters the decisions of a Cabinet meeting here on Tuesday, Mr. Vijayan said the government would give due protection to the faithful. He made the statement when it was pointed out that a group of women journalists were forced to get down from a bus at Nilackal.

Asked whether the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) would file a review petition on the Supreme Court verdict lifting the curbs on women’s entry to the temple, Mr. Vijayan said the TDB had the powers to take its decision.

The government had informed the court that it would not pilot a law and would only implement its verdict. It had proposed to form a panel comprising persons having knowledge of the ritualistic tradition of the temple and elicit their views before passing the verdict, he said.
