A 17-year old girl was killed and several others were injured when a private bus skidded off the road and fell into a small gorge at Palukachipara near Malur here on Wednesday.
The Malur police said the deceased, Jabeera, a Plus Two student of the Malur Government Higher Secondary School, was among the passengers in the bus on its way from Mattannur to Malur.
The accident occurred at around 8 a.m. Immediately after the accident, local people launched a rescue operation and rushed critically injured Jabeera to a hospital at Koothuparamba.
She succumbed to her injuries by the time she was brought to hospital, the police said.
The police said that 20 other passengers in the bus also suffered injuries in the accident. They have been admitted to hospitals at Koothuparamba and Thalassery.
