Traversing through different states of experience and different phases of expression, an artist claims to translate his mindscape on canvas.
‘Degree Show 2015’ organised by the College of Fine Arts in the capital, lets every visitor experience a signature style of 16 artists, with subtle shades and bold brush strokes.
On view at the exhibition are 114 paintings, some among them standing out with the artists’ choice of colour and imagery.
There is Amrutha Vishal’s ‘Malabar Onam Sadhya’ that blends painting and relief work on canvas, offering a 3D affect in the process by the creative use of synthetic clay and adhesives.
In another of her paintings, titled ‘Danger Love’, she creates a mood of pensive longing. Amrutha says red and black colours served her best when executing the painting as she found these colours to represent the deceptive games that lovers play. Amrutha’s ‘Vision from Home Window’ has won her special appreciation from the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi. Six of her paintings form part of a series titled ‘An expression of stillness.’
Another student who has many of his works on display in the Degree Show is Subs Raj, whose untitled work captures the four years of his life at the college in one frame filled with vignettes from the city’s busy intersection. “Each artist goes through different phases of experience and this canvas unfurls my agony,” he says about his ‘Self Portrait.’
Other young artists whose works are on display at the Degree Show include Irshaad, Nithin Babu, Muhammed Riyas, Deepak and Biju.
