Four people, including two children, were killed and three others seriously injured in an accident at Kuthiran on Tuesday.

The deceased were Nived, 6, and Navani, children of Karattukuzhy Prathapan of Pindimana, Kothamangalam; his mother-in-law Valsa, 57; and his grandmother Thanka, 70.

Prathapan’s wife, Asha, and his brother-in-law Ajilmon were admitted to the Jubilee Mission Medical College Hospital, Thrissur, with serious injuries.

The car in which the family was travelling rammed a lorry from behind when the lorry driver applied the brake suddenly. At the same time, a lorry coming from behind the car crashed into it. The car got sandwiched in between the lorries.

The Peechi police and the Fire and Rescue Services had a tough time pulling out the injured and retrieving the bodies.

Three persons, including both the children, were killed on the spot. Thanka died in the hospital. The car went under the first lorry when the other one rammed it from behind, people said.

The family was going from Kollangode to Kothamangalam after attending a wedding. The traffic on the Thrissur-Palakkad National Highway was disrupted for a while.
