Five years old endosulfan victim dies in Kasaragod district

After battling for life in abject deplorable condition, a five-year old victim of the “killer” endosulfan pesticide spraying in the district, passed away at his residence in Karadukka panchayat in the district, sources here said.

Mithun, son of Mohana-Pushpa couple, residing at Berla, had been afflicted with the physical retardation and under-growth and bed-ridden right from birth causing great deal of anguish and sorrow on those who chanced to see the plight of the boy.

Despite undergoing treatment in various hospitals in Mangalore and the Pariyaram Medical College hospital, Mithun’s condition grew worse in due course of time. His family members eligible for free treatment were able to enlist his name too in the official list of the endosulfan victims in the district.

The death of the boy comes a day ahead of the two-day national workshop scheduled here from Saturday to devise comprehensive relief and rehabilitation package for the hundreds of endosulfan victims and their families, driven lead a life of perpetual trauma and agony in the remote hamlets in the district.
