The first phase of the art village, Kalagramam, being constructed by the Kerala Lalitha Kala Akademi at Kakkannanpara near Sreekantapuram here will be functional by October 2, Cultural Affairs Minister K.C. Joseph said.
During his visit to the site of the art village under construction on Tuesday, the Minister said that the works were planned to make the first phase of the Kalagramam operational by October 2. He said that the art village is being set up with the objective of extending the activities of the Akademi to north Malabar. The project would provide facilities for artists to engage in creative works by staying at the Kalagramam, he said.
Akademi chairman Kattoor Narayana Pilla, secretary Vaikom Shibhu, artist Eby N. Joseph, cultural secretary K. Mohanan, district panchayat member K.V. Philomena and architect R.K. Ramesh were present.
The art village is being developed on a 3.5 acre plot. In the first phase, the village will have facilities, including studios, art galleries, auditorium and guest houses. The works planned in the second phase include development of a film city and theatre with modern facilities.
