Fasal’s widow in the fray

October 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - KANNUR:

The election to the Thalassery municipal council will be keenly watched for, among other things, the candidature of an accused in a murder case and of the widow of the murdered in separate wards.

The CPI(M) is fielding Karayi Chandrashekharan in the Chellath ward in the municipality and Karayi Rajan in the Patyam division of the district panchayat, both accused in the case of murder of PFI worker Muhammad Fasal. The nomination filed by Fasal’s widow Mariyu C.H. as candidate of the Social Democratic Party of India from the Kaivattom ward of the constituency, is set to make the murder case a backdrop of electioneering in the municipality. Ms. Mariyu filed her nomination papers before the Returning Officer at Thalassery on Monday.
