P. Sathosh Kumar, the newly elected district secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), has said that incidents of political violence in the district have to be brought to an end.
Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Kumar said that clashes between parties in the name of political activism had to be put to an end.
Responding to questions on the CPI district unit’s stand on the incidents of clashes between workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he said that the practice of resorting to violence by parties as part of their political activities could not be accepted.
The CPI, on its part, would oppose political violence regardless of whichever party was behind it, he added. Mr. Kumar, who is a lawyer by profession, said that efforts would be made for the grass-roots level strengthening of the party in the district. The CPI was also favouring initiatives for strengthening the Left Democratic Front in the district.
He also said that the party’s district conference demanded that the government announce a Rs.10,000-crore special package for the comprehensive development of the district.
