The Election Commission has set the ball rolling to make the coming general elections friendly for the differently abled.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Teekaram Meena convened a meeting of representatives of various organisations of differently abled people here on Thursday with a view to ensuring the active participation of this section in the upcoming general elections. The CEO directed the Social Justice Department to take immediate action in this direction.

Differently abled persons have been lobbying with the Local Self-Governments Department to make the buildings of local bodies friendly and convenient for them. Recently, organisations representing various categories of difffently abled people had petitioned the Local Self-Governments Minister in this regard.

In the meantime, the State commissioner for persons with disabilities has asked all institutions offering education, training and rehabilitation for persons with disabilities to compulsorily register themselves with all government-approved agencies.
