Communist Party of India (Marxist) MP and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) leader M.B. Rajesh denied that he was critical of senior party leader and Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference here on Tuesday, the MP said that his remarks at a DYFI meet here earlier on the day were not to criticise Mr. Achuthanandan. He said he had not said anything against the former Chief Minister.

His clarification came after the visual media highlighted his earlier remarks suggesting that the MP was making a veiled criticism of Mr. Achuthanandan. Mr. Rajesh was reported to have hinted that Mr. Achuthanandan was attacking United Democratic Front leaders for publicity. Mr. Rajesh, without naming Mr. Achuthanandan, was reported to have stated at the DYFI meeting here that it was unfortunate that some leaders were talking always of UDF leaders P.K. Kunhalikutty and R. Balakrishna Pillai as an easy way of getting publicity.

The MP at the press conference clarified that he had not said anything against Mr. Achuthanandan.
