Distribution of EVMs begins in Kottayam

With a few days left for the local bodies election, the election authorities have started distribution of electronic voting machines (EVMs).

The first to be despatched on Thursday were the EVMs to be used for Kanjirappally block. The 112 boxes containing 279 control units and 837 ballot units were handed over to Kanjirappally joint BDO K.N. Anil Kumar. The EVMs, after examined by three engineers, were put in the boxes and sealed before being handed over to the block authorities.

Following this, the EVMs for Vazhoor, Pampady and Lalam blocks and Vaikom and Changanassery municipalities were distributed.

The voting machines for Vaikom, Kaduthuruthy, Uzhavoor and Erattupetta blocks and Kottayam and Erattupetta municipalities will be distributed on Friday.

The EVMs to be used in Pala and Ettumanur municipalities and Pallom, Madappally and Ettumanur blocks will be despatched on Saturday.

The distribution exercise was overseen by Anil Oommen, tehsildar and nodal officer.

Theses EVMs will be kept at secured centres till the election day.

After the declaration of election results, the Detachable Memory Modules will be kept at the treasury offices and the EVMs will be put in the boxes and kept at the godown of the Warehousing Corporation at Ettumanur.
