A decision on the Lok Sabha candidates of the National Democratic Alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party will be taken by the second week of February, BJP State general secretary K. Surendran has said.
The party’s core committee meeting here on Thursday is understood to have reached a consensus on giving four seats, including Kollam, to the Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS). The seats are yet to be decided. The BDJS had demanded eight seats.
The BJP is likely to decide its seats only after fixing the BDJS sets. The BJP may field Suresh Gopi, Kummanam Rajasekharan, K. Surendran, and T.P. Senkumar. It is said that State secretary P.S. Sreedharan Pillai may not contest this time.
Briefing on the decisions taken at the meeting, Mr. Surendran said there would be many surprise candidates on the BJP list. The objective was to bring organisations like the Nair Service Society under one umbrella, he said.
Election committees would be formed in all booths before February 5. The party would do a door-to-door campaign from February 2 to March 2. “‘My family, BJP family’ is the slogan of the campaign. Party flags will be hoisted in houses. Stickers will be pasted. Public meetings will be held.”
BJP president Amit Shah and Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Ravi Shankar Prasad will participate in meetings in the State.
